Nashville Improves To 5-0 With Victory Over Louisville
March 21, 2012
PHOENIX -- Jay Gibbons belted a pair of home runs to power the undefeated Nashville Sounds to an 8-2 win over the Louisville Bats (AAA-Reds) on Wednesday afternoon at Maryvale Baseball Park.

Gibbons went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the contest as Nashville improved to 5-0 in spring action.

Second baseman Eric Farris matched Gibbons with a three-hit effort of his own (3-for-5) and outfielder Chuckie Caulfield continued his solid spring with another multiple-hit performance (2-for-4) which included a triple.

The above three players accounted for nine of the Sounds' 11 hits on the day.

Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum got the start for the Sounds as he came over from Major League camp and allowed one run on two hits while striking out two batters during his two innings of work.

Darren Byrd followed with a scoreless frame before Mike Fiers took over on the hill and worked four innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking two batters and striking out a pair. Jim Henderson and Rob Wooten closed out the victory with a scoreless relief inning apiece for Nashville.

The Sounds (5-0) have Thursday off from game action but will participate in intrasquad scrimmages at Maryvale. On Friday, Nashville returns to action with a road contest against Albuquerque (AAA-Dodgers) at the Camelback Sports Complex.
