July 24, 2007
Jeff Manship set a career high with 12 strikeouts in seven innings as visiting Fort Myers dropped Lakeland, 4-1, on Monday.

Manship (5-1) gave up one run on six hits and three walks to win his fourth straight start. After a two-hour rain delay, the 22-year-old right-hander struck out the side in the first and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second by fanning two. He also struck out four of the last six hitters he faced and lowered his ERA to 2.61.

Earlier this season, Manship struck out 10 in 5 2/3 frames in a no-decision against Clinton while pitching for Class A Beloit of the Midwest League. He also fanned nine in wins over Great Lakes on May 5 and Cedar Rapids on June 12.

Armando Gabino tossed two perfect innings for his fourth save, striking out two.

Juan Portes went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI base hit in the fifth, Erik Lis had two RBIs and Brian Dinkelman scored twice for the Miracle (16-16).

Michael Hernandez scored the lone run for the Flying Tigers (12-17) when Mark Haske hit a fielder's choice groundout in the second.

Lakeland starter Lucas French (5-8) surrendered four runs on six hits, fanning one and walking three in five innings.
