John Cangelosi was inducted into the Appleton Baseball Hall of Fame on July 27, 2007.
Cangelosi was a fourth round pick in the 1982 January draft by the Chicago White Sox out of Miami-Dade College. He had a successful professional debut, hitting .289 with 45 stolen bases for Niagara Falls in the New York - Penn League. He also hit 5 home runs that season, and it wouldn't be until 1993 with Toledo that he would top that total. He would be promoted to Appleton as a 20 year old for the 1983 season.
Cangelosi helped the Appleton Foxes to an 87-50 record and a Midwest League Championship title in 1983. He set the Appleton Baseball record for stolen bases in a season with 87, a record that still stands. During that season he led the Foxes in hits, runs scored, and stolen bases. He batted .282 and thanks to 99 walks, had an impressive .421 on base percentage.
He would make his Major League debut on June 30th, 1985 against the Minnesota Twins. John would go on to play 14 years in the Majors for seven different teams including the White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Houston Astros, Florida Marlins, and Colorado Rockies. Cangelosi earned a ring as a member of the 1997 World Champion Florida Marlins. He was a career .250 hitter, with 154 stolen bases and 134 runs batted in.
