MISSIONS FALL TO DRILLERS 1-0 IN SERIES FINALE

April 7, 2012
San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions are now 1-2 on the season after being shutout by the Tulsa Drillers in the finale of a three-game series.

Missions starter Andrew Werner, making his Double-A debut, gave up just three hits and no runs in five innings while striking out three. His counterpart, Parker Frazier, was equally as effective, tossing six shutout innings with five strikeouts and two walks.

Each bullpen kept the other offenses scoreless until Tulsa right-fielder Kent Matthes scored on an RBI double by pinch-hitter Ben Paulsen. Matthes had reached on an error by San Antonio second baseman Dean Anna to begin the inning.

Drillers closer Josh Sullivan retired the Missions in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win.

San Antonio's best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the opening inning. First baseman Cody Decker singled to left field but Jaff Decker was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score from second.

The Missions will begin a three-game series with the NW Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City Royals) tomorrow afternoon, the first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

Tomorrow night the first 500 kids 12 and under will receive a cereal bowl courtesy of Kellogg's.

You can catch all the Missions action on KKYX 680 AM, the home of Missions baseball with Roy Acuff and Mike Saeger.
