Cron Slam Powers 66ers to 7-1 Win
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- -Inland Empire hammered former San Bernardino pitcher Ted Lilly on the way to a 7-1 series clinching win Sunday afternoon. The 66ers (3-1) picked up the team's first Grand Slam of the season when C.J. Cron connected against the rehabbing Dodger, who could not help the Quakes (1-3) even the series.
Ted Lilly was a California League Pitcher of the Year when he called San Bernardino his home back in 1997, but in 2012 the Inland Empire 66ers we're the opposition and the results were not as kind for Lilly. In the 2nd inning Jimmy Swift got the 66ers on the board with a solo-homer to left, and in the 3rd a C.J. Cron Grand Slam blew the game wide open for Inland Empire.
Max Russell was solid for the 66ers, starting after pitching for Inland Empire in relief just three days prior. Russell went five innings allowing just one run on five hits. The bullpen was even better, allowing just two base runners in four frames. Brian Hernandez had a solid game as well, going two-for-four with two RBI and turning in some nice defensive plays from third base.
Inland Empire will continue their season opening road trip in Lake Elsinore Monday night. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 6:55.
The 66ers home opener is set for Thursday, April 12th as the 66ers debut their newly named San Manuel Stadium. It will be a Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Hangar 24, and all fans in attendance will receive a 66ers magnet schedule.
