Tyler Cloyd Named IL Pitcher of the Week

April 9, 2012
RHP Tyler Cloyd - who dazzled IronPigs fans with his six perfect innings on Opening Night last Thursday - was named the International League's Pitcher of the Week as announced by the International League on Monday.

Cloyd's 73-pitch gem came in the 24-year-old's first career Triple-A start. In fact, the Bellevue, NE native was slated to open the 2012 season with Double-A Reading, but was summoned to Lehigh Valley for the IronPigs first game to replace suspended pitcher Dave Bush. The young prospect delivered six perfect innings and earned the win en route to the IronPigs' 3-0 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

Cloyd became the first pitcher in club history to toss six perfect frames in a game. The 6-3, 210-pound right-hander struck out eight Yankees hitters, a number he reached just twice in 22 starts last season. An 18th round selection in 2008 by the Phillies, Cloyd is in his fifth season of professional baseball, owning a career 33-21 record with a 3.63 ERA. Last season, he combined to go 9-4 with a 2.77 ERA between Clearwater and Reading.
