Throwback Friday: Daryl Boston - OF - 1982
Daryl Boston - OF - 1982
The Chicago White Sox made Daryl Boston the 7th overall pick in the 1981 draft out of Woodward High School in Cincinnati, OH. He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League White Sox the summer. He hit .291 in rookie ball with only one homer.
The power would come the following year with the Appleton Foxes, as Boston would hit 15 bombs in the Midwest League. He showed his all around skill set by also stealing 28 bases, driving in 77, and having 9 outfield assists. Boston hit a solid .279 in leading the Foxes to an 81-59 regular season record and the Midwest League Championship.
Boston would quickly move through the system, making his Major League debut as a 21 year old on May 13, 1984 with a three hit performance against the Rangers. Boston would go on to play 11 years in the Majors, appearing in over 1,000 games with the White Sox, Mets, Rockies, and Yankees, but ironically, not the Red Sox.
