Buchanan lifts Legends over Dogs

Greg Buchanan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI as Lexington beat visiting Charleston, 6-2, on Thursday.

Buchanan singled and scored in the third inning, doubled and scored again in the fourth and delivered an RBI single in the eighth for the Legends (20-27), who snapped a five-game losing streak.

James Van Ostrand hit a solo homer, his 11th, and Eric Taylor ripped a two-run double for Lexington.

Legends starter David Qualben (9-7) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Chad Wagler struck out two over two perfect frames for his fifth save.

Mitch Hilligoss led of the game with a homer, his fourth, for the River Dogs (29-17), who had a seven-game winning streak snapped and fell into a first-place tie with Asheville in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division.

Charleston starter Grant Duff (11-8) gave up four runs on six hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. --Tim Leonard/MLB.com
