Cold bats doom M-Braves against Generals, 7-1

Jackson, TN - Back-to-back extra inning contests took their toll on the Mississippi Braves as they managed just one run on three hits in a 7-1 loss to the Jackson Generals on Monday night at Pringles Park.

Generals (8-4) starter James Paxton walked eight over 4 2/3 innings, but he allowed just two hits and pitched out of a bases loaded jam with nobody out in the third to preserve a 1-1 tie game.

Jackson put up three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Zeke Spruill pitched six innings for the Braves (4-8), allowing seven runs on 14 hits in the start. Mark Lamm pitched the final two innings, allowing just one base runner.

Former M-Brave Moises Hernandez picked up the win in relief for the Generals, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

The lone run for the Braves came in the top of the first inning, when Ian Gac doubled off of Paxton to plate Mycal Jones.

Cory Harrilchak provided two of the Braves' three hits with singles in the second and the ninth.

The Braves and Generals square off in game three on Tuesday at 7:05 PM. LHP Sean Gilmartin (0-1, 1.50) takes on Generals RHP Taijuan Walker (1-0, 3.60), the number one prospect in the Mariners' organization according to Baseball America.
