Flashback: June in the Texas League

With the 2005 season in the books, MiLB.com takes a month-by-month look back at the biggest stories of the year in each league.

June 1 -- John Danks earned a win in his Double-A debut as the Frisco RoughRiders beat the Arkansas Travelers, 7-4. The Texas Rangers' 2003 first-round draft pick yielded one earned run in 5 2/3 innings.

June 1 -- Chris Lambert, the St. Louis Cardinals' 2004 first-round draft pick, didn't fare as well in his Double-A debut. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss Springfield was beaten by the Midland RockHounds, 5-2.

June 2 -- In a game that lasted six hours and nine minutes, the Wichita Wranglers scored five runs in the 20th inning to beat the Corpus Christi Hooks, 7-2.

June 4 -- Jon Huber tossed a seven-inning two-hit shutout to lead San Antonio past Wichita, 5-0, in the second game of a doubleheader. The 23-year-old right-hander was perfect through three innings and had a no-hitter through four.

June 5 -- Jeremy Cummings surrendered one hit in seven innings en route to winning the Pitcher of the Week Award. The 29-year-old right-hander retired 19 consecutive batters in one stretch as Springfield blanked Frisco, 2-0.

June 5 -- After suffering through a 5-for-44 slump, San Antonio's Nate Espy hit safely in seven straight games to win the Offensive Player of the Week award. The 27-year-old first baseman finished the week with an 11th-inning homer to give the Missions a 7-6 win over the Wranglers.

June 7 -- Dallas Braden threw eight scoreless innings as the RockHounds edged the Hooks, 1-0. In his next start, the 21-year-old southpaw allowed two runs in 7 2/3 innings to pick up another win -- and Pitcher of the Week honors.

June 8 -- Reliever Shane Bazzell hurled five no-hit innings as four RoughRiders combined to two-hit the Missions in a convincing 13-0 win.

June 9 -- St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Cal Eldred tossed two scoreless innings in his third and final rehab appearance, but Springfield fell to Wichita, 4-2. The 37-year-old went 1-0 and did not allow a run in six Double-A innings.

June 9 -- Offensive Player of the Week Juan Senreiso went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs as the RoughRiders rallied to beat the Missions, 9-8. The 23-year-old went on to bat .520 while hitting safely in all six of his games.

June 13 -- With an 8-2 win, the RockHounds clinched their first playoff berth in 10 years and handed the RoughRiders their 17th consecutive road loss. The following night, Frisco ended its streak -- two games short of the Texas League record -- with a 7-4 win over Midland.

June 14 -- With five games remaining in the season's first half, the Drillers clinched a playoff berth with an 8-4 come-from-behind win over the Wranglers.

June 16 -- Pitcher of the Week Edison Volquez hurled a three-hitter as the RoughRiders cruised to a 10-0 win over the Hooks. The 21-year-old right-hander became the first Minor Leaguer to be named Player of the Week at two different levels this season.

June 17 -- Mike Napoli knocked in all eight of his team's runs as the Travelers doubled up the Wranglers, 8-4. The 23-year-old catcher belted a pair of three-run homers and a two-run double.

June 19 -- Jesus Guzman's 17th-inning homer gave the Missions a 2-1 win over the RockHounds. San Antonio fanned 23, one short of the Texas League record for an extra-inning game. Offensive Player of the Week Steve Stanley went 4-for-8 in the losing cause.

June 21 -- Andre Ethier won the Home Run Derby, then took home the All-Star Game MVP award as he led the West to a 5-0 victory over the East. Ethier knocked in the game's first run and robbed Alberto Callaspo of a home run.

June 26 -- Corpus Christi's Jason Hirsh made just one start, but it was good enough to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. The 6-foot-8 right-hander allowed five hits and two walks while striking out eight over eight scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over Arkansas.

June 28 -- In a 5-2 win over the RockHounds, Wranglers starter Ryan Baerlocher surrendered just two hits in six frames to extend his scoreless streak to 20 1/3 innings.

June 28 -- Kendry Morales slugged his first three Double-A homers, but they weren't enough as the Travelers fell to the Missions, 7-6. Before his big game, Morales was mired in a two-week, 7-for-45 slump.
