Leones rally, win Game 1
The Leones were held hitless through four innings before sending 12 men to plate in the fifth. Izzy Alcantara started things with a one-out single, Said Gutierrez walked and Borges doubled home both runners.
Sergio Palafox and Quincy Foster walked to load the bases before Oswaldo Morejon greeted reliever Gaudencio Aguirre with an RBI single. Luis Arredondo lifted a sacrifice fly to put the defending champions in front for good, 4-3, and Foster scored on an error by first baseman Benji Gil.
Jesus Castillo delivered a run-scoring single and Willie Romero capped the rally by racing home on a passed ball.
An inning later, Foster ripped an RBI triple and scored on Fernando Alejos' double to make it 9-3.
Yucatan starter Oswaldo Verdugo (3-0) allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two in five frames.
Miguel Flores had two hits, including an RBI single in the third, for the Sultanes, who host Game 2 of the best-of-7 series on Wednesday. Adan Amezcua delivered a run-scoring groundout in the fifth and added an RBI single in the ninth. Gil chipped in two hits and three runs scored.
Monterrey starter Mauricio Lara (2-1) took a no-hitter into the fifth but ended up surrendering five runs -- four earned -- on two hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
