Cubs Recall Outfielder Tony Campana from Iowa
Campana pinch hit for LHP Paul Maholm in the sixth inning of today's Chicago Cubs 6-1 win over Cincinnati. He went 1-for-2, finishing the game defensively in centerfield.
The 25-year-old Campana was batting .304 (17-for-56) with one double, one home run and three RBI in 14 games with Iowa this season. He leads the Pacific Coast League with eight stolen bases.
Campana made his major league debut with the Cubs last season and batted .259 (37-for-143) with 24 stolen bases and 24 runs scored in 95 games. He went 24-for-26 in his stolen base attempts and led all of baseball with a 92.3-percent success rate. His 24 stolen bases were the most by a Cubs rookie in 20 years since Ced Landrum had 27 in 1991. He was originally selected by the Cubs in the 13th round of the 2008 Draft out of the University of Cincinnati.
Left-handed pitcher Sheldon McDonald also returned to extended spring training in Mesa, Arizona today. The Canadian southpaw was called up to the Triple-A Cubs for Iowa's final game at Albuquerque Friday night following left-handed reliever Scott Maine was called up to Chicago. McDonald did not pitch during his time with the I-Cubs.
