Alaniz Throws Seven Strong but Storm Win in Ninth

JetHawks swept by Storm after 5-4 loss in Lake Elsinore

(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - Ruben Alaniz threw seven strong innings and Ben Heath hit his first home run of the season but the Lancaster JetHawks fell to the Lake Elsinore Storm, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon.

Storm outfielder Rymer Liriano scored from first base on Bryan Altman's double in the bottom of the ninth to win the game and finish a four game sweep of the JetHawks before a sellout crowd of 7,355 at The Diamond.

Jorge De Leon picked up the loss to drop his record to 0-3. Ryan Quigley (1-0) got the win for the Storm.

Lancaster led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth. Starter Ruben Alaniz had made just 71 pitches over seven shutout innings but he allowed three runs in the eighth before being replaced by Patrick Urckfitz.

Urckfitz allowed a RBI-triple to Rico Noel who then came home to score the tying run on a wild pitch.

The JetHawks put runners on first and second in the top of the ninth but Quigley struck out Rafael Valenzuela and George Springer to end the inning. Lancaster finished the game 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and went 1-for-33 in the series.

Lancaster took the lead in the first inning when Ben Orloff scored on an Erik Castro ground out to make the score 1-0.

The JetHawks added two runs in the fourth. Castro scored on an Adam Bailey doubled and Jonathan Meyer scored on a Domingo Santana ground out.

The fourth and final run came in the sixth on Ben Heath's first home run of the season.

With the loss, Lancaster drops to 5-12 on the season and is now six games out of first place in the South Divison.

The JetHawks return home Monday night to begin a seven game home stand with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Stockton Ports.

Monday night is another $1 Dog Monday presented by Hebrew National. Hot dogs will be sold for just $1 all night long.

Right-hander Zach Grimmett will go up against Garrett Gould. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
