SAN JOSE, CA- The San Francisco Giants have announced that second baseman Freddy Sanchez is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the San Jose Giants on Monday, April 23 at Municipal Stadium. The Giants begin a four-game series against the visiting High Desert Mavericks tonight with first pitch set for 7:00 PM.
Sanchez, 34, is recovering from a right shoulder injury sustained last season. Sanchez won the 2006 batting title when he hit .344 while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates before he was traded to San Francisco during the 2009 season. Sanchez batted .289 with three home runs in 24 RBI's over 60 games during an injury-shortened 2011 campaign with the Giants.
Sanchez previously played for the San Jose Giants on a rehabilitation assignment in 2010. He collected six hits in nine at-bats, including five doubles, during three games in Visalia. Monday will be the first game of Sanchez's career at Municipal Stadium.
