Johnny Doskow to call 1,000th game

"Voice of the River Cats" honored for milestone
August 26, 2007
Sacramento River Cats Radio Broadcaster Johnny Doskow will call his 1,000th game with the team on Thursday when they host the Colorado Spring Sky Sox at Raley Field.

The team celebrated the impending accomplishment with a ceremony from Doskow's booth during Saturday's game against the Fresno Grizzlies. Doskow broadcasts all 144 regular season River Cats games annually, and all pre and post season games, on NewsTalk 1380 KTKZ AM. Doskow's signature call, "Holy Koudelka," is well known amongst River Cats fans and throughout the Sacramento community.

"Throughout his nearly seven years with the River Cats, Johnny's name, face and voice have become synonymous with the River Cats organization," said Darrin Gross, River Cats vice president of corporate partnerships and broadcasting. "He is one of the most beloved members of the Sacramento community and is a true ambassador for the game of baseball."

During the off-season, Doskow spends countless hours at local community organizations promoting River Cats Baseball and sharing his experiences and stories from the game he loves.

Doskow joined the River Cats in 2001, the team's second season in Sacramento. Prior to joining the River Cats, Doskow spent three seasons as the play-by-play announcer and host of daily pre and post-game shows for the Fresno Grizzlies. Before his time with Fresno, the La Verne University graduate spent two seasons with the High Desert Mavericks (Single-A California League) and three seasons with the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Single-A Midwest League).

In 1999, while with Fresno, Doskow was named by Baseball America as one of the 10 best broadcasters in Minor League Baseball.
