Denker plates six runs in San Jose debut

Career high in RBIs lofts his new team past Lancaster, 9-5
August 29, 2007
Travis Denker homered and set a career high with six RBIs to lift visiting San Jose past Lancaster, 9-5, on Tuesday.

Denker, playing in his first game for the Giants (31-33), stroked a two-run double in the fifth inning before launching a grand slam over the left-field wall in the seventh.

The 22-year-old second baseman was acquired from Inland Empire on Sunday as the player to be named later in the Aug. 9 trade between San Francisco and Los Angeles that sent Mark Sweeney to the Dodgers.

It was the most RBIs in a game for Denker since he clubbed three homers and five RBIs on June 16, 2005, with Class A Columbus. He had three four-hit games in a span of seven days earlier this season and has 11 RBIs in his last four games.

Denker finished 2-for-5 for a batting average of .296 with 11 homers and 63 RBIs. He's hitting .307 in 57 away games with 10 roundtrippers, 40 runs scored and 38 RBIs.

San Jose starter Paul Oseguera (10-6) won his second straight start, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts in six innings. Jason Waddell pitched around two hits and a walk in a scoreless seventh, and Sergio Romo fanned five in two perfect frames for his eighth save.

Steve Garrabrants clubbed a pair of two-run dingers in the first and second innings and has nine homers and 24 RBIs in 30 games since joining the JetHawks (39-25) on July 8.

Lancaster starter T.J. Nall surrendered five runs on six hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings. T.J. Large (6-4) recorded just two outs and was charged with four runs on five hits and a walk for the loss.
