Sea Dogs set attendance mark
In 64 openings in 2007, the Portland Sea Dogs averaged a franchise record 6,521 fans per game, surpassing the previous mark of 6,358 fans in 2006.
The Portland Sea Dogs sold out Hadlock Field 24 times in 2007 and drew 417,326, the third highest total in team history, despite losing seven openings due to inclement weather. It is the seventh time in franchise history that the Sea Dogs have surpassed the 400,000 mark. The Sea Dogs finish the season second in the Eastern League in average attendance.
On August 11th a record 34,746 fans watched the Sea Dogs and Lowell Spinners play at Fenway Park as part of the "Futures at Fenway" event. Lowell and Portland split the 34,746 attendance adding 17,373 fans to the total attendance figures for the season.
Should the Sea Dogs finish the regular season in a second place tie with New Hampshire and host a one game playoff, the attendance from that game will be added to the regular season totals.
Over the Sea Dogs 14 year history more than 5.5 million fans have enjoyed Portland Sea Dogs baseball. The Portland Sea Dogs thank the fans for their support throughout the 2007 season and the entire 14 year history of the franchise.
The Portland Sea Dogs wrap-up the regular season with a four day/five game road trip to New Britain. The Sea Dogs hold a half game lead over New Hampshire for the final playoff spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division. Individual game playoff tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500. Should the Sea Dogs qualify for post season play, games three and four (if necessary) would be played at Hadlock Field on Friday, September 7th and Saturday, September 8th at 6:00 PM. If the Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats finish the season tied for second place, the Sea Dogs would host a one game playoff on Tuesday, September 4th at 6:00 PM.
