Robinson named Pioneer League MVP

Caleb Gindl received a very special gift on his 19th birthday.

Gindl and three of his Helena Brewers teammates on Friday were selected to the 2007 Pioneer League All-Star Team.

Born on Aug. 31, 1988, the right fielder leads the league with a .364 batting average to go with five homers, 17 doubles, 38 RBIs and 36 runs scored for the Brewers, who captured the first-half North Division title.

Selected in the fifth round of the June draft, the 5-foot-9 Florida native hasn't wasted any time adjusting to professional baseball. Although he has a .226 average in his last 10 games, Gindl began his career by batting .490 during a 12-game hitting streak.

Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy (.333 average), second baseman Eric Farris (.308, 15 stolen bases) and right-hander Roque Mercedes (7-4, 3.76 ERA) joined Gindl on the All-Star squad.

Idaho Falls Chukars first baseman Clint Robinson received the Ralph Nellis Award as the league's Most Valuable Player after batting .338 with 14 homers and a league-best 59 RBIs in 59 games. He is the Chukars' lone All-Star.

Great Falls White Sox right-hander Juan Moreno earned the Logan Hulbert Pitcher of the Year award after going 5-4 with a league-best 2.56 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 84 innings. He was joined on the All-Star squad by White Sox outfielder Salvador Sanchez (.348, 7 homers, 48 RBIs and 17 steals) and Pioneer League Manager of the Year Chris Cron, who has guided Great Falls to a league-best 44-23 overall mark, including a 20-9 second-half record and first place in the North Division.

Ogden Raptors shortstop Jaime Pedroza (.360, 8, 40) and Orem Owlz third baseman Jay Brossman (.352, 7, 42) fill out the All-Star infield. Jovanny Rosario of the Raptors took the third outfield spot after hitting .327 with 21 stolen bases.

Michael McKennon (.297, 10, 51) of the Billings Mustangs is the designated hitter and Casper Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (6-4, 3.31 and a league-leading 87 innings pitched), Mustangs righty Luis Montano (league-best eight wins) and Owlz southpaw Robert Fish (3.08 ERA, 71 strikeouts) round out the All-Star pitching staff.
