Slumping Swing backs into playoffs
Santiesteban's three-run double highlighted a seven-run first inning. The 22-year-old center fielder singled in three of his final four at-bats.
Matthew Betsill clubbed a solo homer, his third, and drove in two runs for the Snappers (34-35). Ramon Santana and Chris Cates both went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Beloit's Cole DeVries (9-5) yielded five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five scoreless frames to snap a personal five-game winless streak. Four relievers combined to allow two hits while fanning five over the final four innings to complete the Snappers' 11th shutout.
Jose Ramirez and Oliver Marmol had two hits apiece for the Swing (40-29), who have lost six straight to fall into a first-place tie with Cedar Rapids in the Midwest League Western Division. Kane County's loss in the opener of a twinbill at Beloit earlier in the day, however, guaranteed the struggling Swing at least the Wild Card.
Quad Cities starter Shaun Garceau (8-11) retired only two batters in the first inning and was charged with seven runs on six hits and four walks. -- Michael Avallone/MLB.com
