Archer Outdueled By Owens
Archer pitched well in his second start in front of his home crowd, matching his season long outing and striking out five. The Clayton native's lone mistake came in the second inning, when he allowed a single to Jordy Mercer and then a triple to Brandon Boggs. Mercer would score on the extra base hit and Boggs came home via sacrifice fly by catcher Jose Morales. Ryan Reid and Cesar Ramos relieved Archer and tossed three innings of scoreless ball. Ramos pitched the top of the ninth inning and struck out the side looking.
Owens allowed six hits and walked only his first batter of the season in the start against the Bulls. The lefty tossed seven innings of shutout ball on his way to his first victory. Jared Hughes and Doug Slaten pitched the remaining two innings to seal the shutout. Slaten earned his first save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, sealing the Bulls 12th straight loss.
