Indians set attendance mark
So far this season, a total of 186,157 fans have passed through the gates of Avista Stadium in 2007 for an average of 5,031.
If the team draws 3,843 fans in the team's final home game tonight, the all-time average attendance mark of 4,968 fans per game set in 2000 will be surpassed.
"When you think about this short-season team out-drawing even the great Spokane Triple-A teams of the 1970s, it is sort of incredible," said Indians Principal owner, Bobby Brett. "These records are a credit to the Spokane community and the incredible baseball fans that we have here in Spokane."
The team is also on the verge of setting the Spokane short-season attendance record. In the 25 years since Spokane became a short-season Northwest League franchise, the highest season long attendance has been 188,774 fans in 2000. The Indians need to draw 2,617 fans tonight to set this record.
"Every part of our ticket operation is breaking records this year from season tickets, to groups, thanks to the loyal Spokane Indians fans in this community," said Josh Roys, Vice President-Ticket Sales of the Spokane Indians. "Avista Stadium has been rocking all summer long."
This season marks the eighth straight year that the Indians have been tops in the Northwest League in attendance. In 2006 the Indians drew 182,091 fans for an average attendance of 4,792 fans per game.
Fans wishing to be a part of history can join the record breaking crowd tonight as tickets remain available. Tonight's game against the Yakima Bears features the Season Finale Fireworks presented by AAA, KREM 2-TV and 98.9 KKZX. Game time is 6:30pm.
