Did You Know: Pitching Coach Erik Bennett

*Made one appearance with the California Angels in 1995 pitching the final third of the eighth inning against the Minnesota Twins in a 9-6 loss on May 15 (got Mike Merullo to fly-out to centerfield to end the inning).

*Played in 24 games with the Minnesota Twins in 1996, with a 7.90 ERA in 27 innings. Had 13 strikeouts that season including K's of notable players Mark McGwire, Paul O'Neill and Will Clark.

*Selected by the Angels in the fourth round of the 1989 draft, Bennett cemented his legacy in a baseball family as his father Dave pitched for the 1964 Philadelphia Phillies and his uncle Dennis pitched seven seasons in the majors with the Phillies, Boston Red Sox, New York Met and California Angels.

*Put together a 49-48 minor league record with a 4.03 ERA in 226 appearances, Bennett pitched in 17 games for the Salt Lake Buzz in 1996, owning a 3-1 record and 6.38 ERA.

*Played collegiate baseball at California State University-Sacramento (now Sacramento State) from 1987-89. Still holds career record for wins (23) and strikeouts (277) and also holds the single season record for ERA with a 1.88 ERA in 1989. His 119 strikeouts that season are also still a record.

*Began his coaching career as the pitching coach for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 1997 where he helped along the career of former Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Clement.

*Drafted out of Yreka High School (CA) by the Phillies in the 17th round of the 1986 Draft, but didn't sign.

*Finished his career with Double-A affiliates of Cleveland and Houston.

*Began minor league career as a full time starter and had a 34-36 record over five seasons.
