Muckdogs hire new general manager
Wellenzohn's extensive sports experience includes Manager and Assistant Director of Stadium Operations for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons during three seasons, Manager of Baseball Operations for the Double-A Wichita Wranglers, and General Manager of the Single-A Jamestown Jammers for four years. In addition, he was Director of Stadium Operations for the both the Florida Marlins and Miami Dolphins at Joe Robbie Stadium for two years and the Baseball Site Manager for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics at Fulton County Stadium for two years. He has also worked as a political consultant, serving two stints with the Buffalo Common Council and also with the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. for three years.
Wellenzohn will bring his fan entertainment focus to home games as he has been a leader in the industry in developing family fun promotions and activities in his career. In addition to a family focus, his creativity has led to many innovative promotions such as Bald Guys Night and Senior Citizen Wednesdays. His experience with blended sports/entertainment special events such as the Super Bowl XXIX show and concerts featuring acts such as the Rolling Stones and Billy Joel/Elton John will bring to Batavia a new level of exciting entertainment at the ballpark.
"The chance to stay in Western New York and rejoin the New York Penn League was too good to pass up. I plan on moving to Batavia in the next two weeks and I look forward to becoming an active member of the Genesee County community," said Wellenzohn. "Minor league baseball belongs in small towns like Batavia and my number one goal in 2008 is to make sure it is for years and years to come."
