Figueroa Named Rays Player of the Month

May 10, 2012
On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Rays announced that Durham infielder Cole Figueroa has been named the Rays Minor League Player of the Month for April.

Current Durham Bull Cole Figueroa spent his entire April in Double-A with the Montgomery Biscuits. The speedy middle infielder put up impressive numbers. In the season opener with the Biscuits on 4/5, Figueroa went 3-for-4 with a double. The following day, he went 2-for-5 with a R, a double, home run and five RBI. Overall the former Florida Gator finished the month with a .314 average, with six doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. More impressive, was his ability to get on base. Figueroa ended with a .419 on base percentage and a .931 OPS.

Well deserving of the promotion, Figueroa earned a spot on the Durham Roster in early May. Making his debut on 5/3 against the Louisville Bats at the DBAP, Figueroa got off to a quick start, going 1-for-3 with a 2B and a BB. The left handed hitter continues to be a valuable asset for Manager Charlie Montoyo at second base, shortstop and even third base.
