Bats Gone Wild

May 11, 2012
Corpus Christi,TX-The 'Riders tied a season-high for hits, as Frisco demolished Corpus Christi 10-2 Thursday night at Whataburger Field. In the game Frisco recorded seventeen hits, while every starter picked up at least one base knock. On the mound, Barret Loux (7-0) earned his seventh win, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing only two runs. He becomes the first pitcher in all of major/minor league baseball to seven victories.

After both sides went scoreless over the first three frames, Frisco drew first blood in the fourth. Mike Olt opened the inning with a single to left off Jose Cisnero (2-3). Olt moved to second on a Brad Hawpe base hit, and later scored on an RBI single by Ryan Strausborger to make it 1-0 'Riders.

A bit of good fortune helped the visitors extend their advantage. With one out, Val Majewski grounded a ball that ricocheted off the first base bag and past 'Hooks infielder Kody Hinze. Hawpe came around to score, while Strausborger was plated one batter later, on a single by Guilder Rodriguez. In total the 'Riders picked up three runs on five hits in the frame.

That was only the beginning of an offensive barrage, as the 'Riders added to their lead off Hooks reliever Arcenio Leon. Following a pair of singles by Jurickson Profar and Brad Hawpe, as well as a wild pitch, Chris McGuiness tacked on an RBI base knock to make it 4-0. Hawpe would also score, on a sac-fly by Strausborger.

Trailing 5-0, the Hooks picked up a run in the bottom of the frame, but the 'Riders restored their five run advantage on Hawpe's second RBI single of the night.

Not finished piling on, Frisco added two runs in seventh, as well as single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Barrett Loux picked up his seventh win tossing 5.1 innings. He allowed two earned runs, four hits, and struck out six. The losing pitcher was 'Hooks starter Jose Cisnero. He lasted 3.1 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits, and picking up two strikeouts. 'Riders reliever Chad Bell tacked on his second save, throwing the final 3.2 innings. Bell allowed only one hit, and never gave up a run.

Frisco and Corpus Christi play game two of their four game series Friday night. Jake Brigham (2-1, 3.11) tosses for the 'Riders, he will be opposed by Hooks southpaw Brett Oberholtzer (1-2, 6.67).
