With the 2007 season in the books, MiLB.com is taking a look back at the year's highlights in each Major League organization.

April 5 -- Longtime Cubs second baseman and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg guided Peoria to a 9-5 win over Wisconsin in his first game as a professional manager.

April 7 -- After batting .294 with 21 homers and leading all Cubs farmhands with 86 RBIs in 2006, Jake Fox ripped two homers, two doubles and drove in five runs in Tennessee's 10-6 win over Jacksonville.

April 22 -- Mark Holliman struck out six over eight shutout innings and added an RBI single as Tennessee blanked Mobile for the second straight game, 3-0. The 23-year-old right-hander earned his first of two Southern League Pitcher of the Week awards after going 2-0 without allowing an unearned run over 15 frames.

April 23 -- Smokies outfielder Chris Walker won Southern League Offensive Player of the Week honors. The switch-hitter batted .419 (13-for-31) with a homer, nine RBIs and five stolen bases and finished the week on a nine-game hitting streak. Jorge Cortes enjoyed his first of two five-hit games for Tennessee, which fell to Mobile, 8-5.

April 29 -- Geovany Soto went 5-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in Iowa's 8-5 loss to Memphis. The following day, the 24-year-old catcher slugged a walk-off three-run homer to power the Cubs past Nashville, 6-5.

May 4 -- Matt Craig homered and drove in a career-high six runs in Tennessee's 16-1 rout of Birmingham. The 26-year-old third baseman slugged a three-run blast in the first inning, drew a bases-loaded walk in the second and ripped RBI base hits in the fourth and seventh to raise his batting average to .407. Mark Holliman improved to 4-0, allowing a run on six hits over six frames.

May 9 -- Jorge Cortes went 5-for-5 for the second time in three weeks and Mark Holliman won his fifth straight decision as Tennessee blanked Montgomery, 9-0. Cortes collected five singles and drove in two runs to raise his average to a Southern League-best .408. Holliman tossed eight innings, lowering his ERA to 0.44.

May 13 -- One day after the Cubs had an eight-game winning streak snapped, Felix Pie and Koyie Hill drove in four runs apiece as Iowa clobbered Sacramento, 17-7. Pie, who batted .215 in 87 games after a promotion to Chicago, went 3-for-6 with a two-run triple and a two-run single. Hill belted a three-run homer and stroked an RBI base hit.

May 15 -- Iowa's Mike Fontenot was named Pacific Coast League Offensive Player of the Week after batting .581 (18-for-31) with 10 extra-base hits and a seven-game RBI streak. The 26-year-old shortstop was called up on June 9 and batted .278 in 86 games for Chicago. The same day, Mike Kinkade blasted a walk-off homer in the 10th inning to lift Iowa past Sacramento, 6-4, for its 11th win in 13 games.

May 19 -- Mark Holliman continued his hot start in Tennessee's 6-1 win over Mississippi. The right-hander hurled eight shutout frames -- his fifth scoreless outing in eight starts -- and belted his first career homer to improve to 6-1 with a 1.17 ERA.

May 21 -- Tennessee's Jake Fox won Southern League Offensive Player of the Week honors. The 24-year-old catcher batted .522 (16-for-29) with four homers, five RBIs and nine runs scored.

May 29 -- Issmael Salas became the second straight Smokie to be named Southern League Offensive Player of the Week. The 24-year-old infielder hit .500 (8-for-16) with two homers and 11 RBIs, more than doubling his season total of eight.

June 7 -- Mike Kinkade became the first player in the Pacific Coast League to steal home in 2007 during Iowa's 9-6 victory over New Orleans. It was only the second theft of the season for the 34-year-old outfielder.

June 13 -- Matt Camp stole home in the first inning of Peoria's 6-3 loss to Burlington. The 23-year-old outfielder totaled 42 steals at three Minor League levels.

June 18 -- Buck Coats went 5-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs as Iowa outslugged Memphis, 14-11. The 25-year-old outfielder sandwiched three singles around the two roundtrippers for his first five-hit game since 2005.

June 19 -- The Cubs received 2006 first-round pick Kyler Burke in a deal with the Padres involving big-league catchers Michael Barrett and Rob Bowen. Burke, 19, was assigned to Boise of the short-season Northwest League and hit 254 with 10 homers and 41 RBIs in 63 games.

June 21 -- Mark Holliman ended a personal four-game losing streak with a seven-inning no-hitter as Tennessee dropped Huntsville, 3-0, in the opener of a doubleheader. The right-hander, who struck out three and walked one, retired the final 15 batters. He also clubbed a two-run homer, his second, and was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week.

June 25 -- John Webb was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week after firing a career-high eight shutout innings against Nashville. The 27-year-old allowed three hits and a walk with two strikeouts for his first win in six starts.

June 26 -- Ronny Cedeno collected a career-high five hits and helped turn a triple play as Iowa rolled over Albuquerque, 14-8. The 24-year-old shortstop stroked three doubles and drove in two runs to raise his batting average to .385. He went on to win Pacific Coast League Offensive Player of the Week honors.

June 26 --Eugene defeated Boise, 5-2, as the Hawks lost their 10th straight game and eighth to open the 2007 season.

June 26 -- Tennessee's Mark Holliman, Casey McGehee, Jake Fox and Matt Craig were named to the Southern League All-Star team.

July 5 -- Blake Lalli's steal of home highlighted Peoria's 7-3 victory over Kane County. Matt Camp was the first Chief to swipe home on June 13. Joshua Donaldson blasted a walk-off homer to give Boise an 8-7 win over Everett.

July 9 -- Kyle Reynolds matched a career high with six RBIs, going 2-for-3 with two homers and a sacrifice fly as Daytona outslugged Vero Beach, 14-13. The 23-year-old third baseman batted .282 with 21 homers and 79 RBIs between two Minor League levels.

July 12 -- Andrew Rundle became the second Hawk to hit a walk-off homer in one week as Boise edged Yakima, 14-13, in 10 innings.

July 14 -- Jake Fox ripped his first of two walk-off homers in 2007 to power Tennessee past Mobile, 7-5. The Southern League All-Star went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and moved into a tie for the league lead with his 18th roundtripper. That same day, Cubs right-hander Kerry Wood began a rehab assignment in the Arizona League by striking out all three batters he faced.

July 24 -- Eric Patterson went 5-for-6 with four RBIs as Iowa downed Colorado Springs, 10-3. Promoted to Chicago on Aug. 6, Patterson batted .299 with 14 homers and 62 RBIs at Triple-A and went 2-for-8 in seven big-league games.

July 23-25 -- Dylan Johnston had a career night, going 5-for-5 with four runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base in Boise's 15-4 drubbing of Spokane. The 20-year-old shortstop lifted his average 33 points to .281 after collecting three singles and two doubles. Two nights later, he stroked a walk-off homer as the Hawks edged Indians, 4-3.

July 25 -- Matt Murton went 4-for-6 and drove in a career-high six runs as Iowa pounded Colorado Springs, 18-8. The 25-year-old outfielder, who spent the 2006 season in the Majors, stroked a pair of RBI singles before capping an eight-run fourth with a grand slam.

July 26 -- Reliever Al Alburquerque recorded eight strikeouts in three innings, including six straight, to pick up the victory in Boise's 7-4 triumph over Vancouver.

July 27 -- Kyle Reynolds matched a career high with six RBIs in his second Double-A game to power Tennessee past Carolina, 14-1. He also drove in six runs on July 9 for Class A Advanced Daytona.

Aug. 2 -- Jake Fox connected for a two-out, walk-off grand slam to rally Iowa past Albuquerque, 10-6. The 25-year-old hit .291 with two homers and six RBIs in his first six games after a promotion from Double-A Tennessee.

Aug. 3 -- Tony Thomas became the first Cubs farmhand to steal four bases in a game in 2007 when he turned the trick in Boise's 11-7 win over Eugene. The 21-year-old second baseman went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. He ended the season with 28 steals in 30 attempts.

Aug. 6 -- Former Notre Dame football standout and 2006 draftee Jeff Samardzija won his Double-A debut as Tennessee topped Montgomery, 6-2. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed a run over six innings.

Aug. 6 -- Boise's Jonathan Wyatt was named Northwest League Offensive Player of the Week after batting .478 (11-for-23) with two doubles, three times, a homer and six RBIs.

Aug. 11 -- Jake Fox had his first career three-homer game and drove in six runs to power Iowa past Oklahoma, 12-1. He hit safely in 13 of his first 14 games with the Cubs and batted .283 with six roundtrippers and 19 RBIs in 25 Triple-A contests.

Aug. 13 -- Iowa's Matt Craig was named Pacific Coast League Offensive Player of the Week after hitting .522 (12-for-23) with a pair of home runs and nine RBIs.

Aug. 20 -- Josh Kroeger became the fifth Iowa player to hit a walk-off homer in 2007, blasting a three-run shot to lift the Cubs past Memphis, 7-5. A native of Davenport, Iowa, Kroeger combined to hit .330 with 21 homers and 81 RBIs at two Minor League levels.

Aug. 25 -- Four Chiefs combined on a no-hitter in Peoria's 6-0 blanking of Beloit. James Russell, Chris Siegfried, Matt Maradeo and Jose Ceda combined for 11 strikeouts in the club's first no-hitter since 2005.

Sept. 2 -- Tennessee qualified for the Southern League playoffs, despite a 6-5 loss to Carolina. The Smokies finished 73-65, 2 1/2 games behind first-place Huntsville in the North Division.

Sept. 6 -- Mark Holliman allowed two runs and struck out six over seven innings as the Smokies topped Huntsville, 6-2, in Game 1 of their Southern League playoff series. Casey McGehee and Issmael Salas drove in two runs apiece for Tennessee, which ended up losing the series in five games.
