Royals Mascot Throws Crown Into Ring For Job
After the university's announcement was made on Monday, Casey had no comment about his future role, if any, in the athletic department at UNL. The lion was seen around campus on Monday evening as well as at the Huskers-Oklahoma State game Saturday afternoon.
Casey held a short press conference today and answered questions regarding his decision to pursue a new position. When asked his thoughts on the position of athletic director, Casey stated that "the position is in very high regard" adding, "I hope my long-time popularity with Royals fans will boost my candidacy for the opening." Royals General Manager Martie Cordaro said he would stand beside Casey in whatever he decides to do. "Casey has been great to work with in my time here," stated Cordaro. "He would be tough to replace."
Casey will be making a public appearance Wednesday at the Buy the Big O! Show at the Qwest Center, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
