Flashback: September in the South Atlantic League
Sept. 1 -- Ryan Zimmerman, who started his professional career in late June with the Savannah Sand Gnats, was called up to the Major Leagues by the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman went 8-for-17 with two homers and six RBIs in four games with Savannah. He was quickly promoted to Double-A Harrisburg, where he batted .326 with nine homers in 63 games. The 2005 fourth-overall draft pick continued his onslaught in the Majors with a .397 average over 20 games.
Sept. 7 -- The Kannapolis Intimidators won the longest game in South Atlantic League playoff history, edging the Charleston RiverDogs, 4-3, in the opener of a first-round playoff series. In the bottom of the 21st inning, Christopher Getz singled in Boomer Berry to send Kannapolis to its eighth straight victory.

Sept. 7 -- The Delmarva Shorebirds opened their first-round playoff series by trouncing the Hagerstown Suns, 13-3. Delmarva broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth via three Suns errors. Jake Duncan and Gary Cates each had three hits and two RBIs in the rout.
Sept. 9 -- The Kannapolis Intimidators swept the Charleston RiverDogs with a 5-4 win in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. Donny Lucy broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth inning after doubling and scoring on a double-play grounder.
Sept. 9 -- Jose Coronado went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Hagerstown Suns evened their first-round series against the Delmarva Shorebirds with a 7-4 victory in Game 2.
Sept. 10 -- The Hagerstown Suns advanced to the Sally Championship Series with a 9-7 victory in Game 3 against the Delmarva Shorebirds. George Psomas drove in three runs and Dante Brinkley homered for Hagerstown.
Sept. 12 -- David Cook homered twice and Carlos Torres worked eight exceptional innings as Kannapolis opened the Sally's Championship Series with an 8-2 victory over Hagerstown. Cook crushed a two-run homer in the sixth and launched a solo shot in the seventh. Torres limited the Suns to one run on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Sept. 13 -- The Hagerstown Suns evened their best-of-five series against Kannapolis with a 5-3 victory. Ambiorix Concepcion's RBI single in the third inning gave the Suns the lead for good. Hagerstown starter Jose Sanchez picked up the win by yielding one run on six hits in six innings.
Sept. 15 -- Adam Ricks drove in four runs as Kannapolis pounded Hagerstown, 12-5, in Game 3 of the South Atlantic League Championship Series. The win gave the Intimidators a 2-1 lead in the series and put them within one game of the championship.
Sept. 16 -- The Kannapolis Intimidators won their first-ever
South Atlantic League Championship with a 3-0 blanking of the Hagerstown Suns in Game 4. Jack Egbert limited Hagerstown to one run on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings. Ryan McCarthy factored in all three Kannapolis runs. He doubled and scored in the third inning and slugged a two-run homer in the fifth.
