Thunder hire Coleman as Assistant GM
Coleman, 31, comes to Trenton after having spent 2004 and 2005 as the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of the start-up Golden Baseball League in California. Prior to starting the Golden League, Coleman spent five years with the Modesto A's where he served as AGM, General Manager and Vice President. In 2003, he led the Modesto staff to the Bob Freitas Award which is given annually by Baseball America to recognize franchise excellence in Minor League Baseball. Coleman helped Modesto, a 58 year-old franchise, to its two highest single-season attendance totals and was recognized as American Sports Entertainment's 2002 Executive of the Year.
"It's a thrill to join the Thunder staff and contribute to their track record of success," said Coleman. "I am very passionate about baseball and the Trenton area, and now I have the good fortune to combine those passions." Coleman graduated from Steinert High School in Hamilton, NJ in 1992 and The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ in 1996. At Steinert, he earned All-CVC honors in football and was a member of the Spartans' 1992 Group III State Championship baseball team. Coleman would go on to play football at TCNJ as well. His professional baseball background includes serving as Director of Sales & Promotions for the Orlando Rays (Class AA, Southern League) and Director of Marketing & Media for the Daytona Cubs (Class A, Florida State League).
"We are excited to have someone with this amount of experience and success in the baseball industry coming to Trenton," said Thunder General Manager Brad Taylor. "The fact that he's a local guy coming back to work for his home town team just makes this a great situation for Greg and for the Thunder."
