Rodriguez extinguishes the Blaze 3-2

May 18, 2012
Lake Elsinore - Lake Elsinore - The Storm tonight welcomed the second place team in the North Division the Bakersfield Blaze. Tonight it was Eddy Rodriguez who came up clutch in the seventh with a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the storm the lead and the eventual win 3-2.

It was a pitching duel through the fourth as both starters held batters to no runs scored.

The scoreless game would break in the top of the fifth when the Blaze smoked in a run using the speed of top prospect Billy Hamilton. After reaching second base on an error, he picked up his only stolen base of the night ending up on third and would score off Devin Lohman's ground out to Bisson at short stop.

But the Storm would answer back in the sixth when Rico Noel showed off his speed to tie the game up. After a single to left field, he stole second and would then score off a Cory Spangenberg ground out to short stop.

The difference maker would come in the seventh. With one on and one out up came fan favorite catcher Eddy Rodriguez. Rodriguez's blast not only gave the Storm the lead but he now leads the team with four home runs this season lifting the Storm to the victory.

Storm Starter Matt Andriese went five innings allowing only one run, four hits and picked up three strikeouts. New Yorker and reliever Dennis O'Grady would pick up the win for the home team pitching two innings and collecting three strikeouts.

Blaze starter Josh Smith would go six innings and record nine strikeouts in the no decision.

Storm Closer Kevin Quackenbush would come in the close the game and pick up his league leading ninth save on the season.

The two teams return to The Diamond tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. Fireworks Friday game. Undefeated Storm starter Donn Roach (7-0) will go up against Tony Cingrani (4-1) who currently has a low ERA of 0.68.
