Bauer Lifts Aces to 2-1 Win

May 19, 2012
RENO, Nev.- Diamondbacks top prospect Trevor Bauer held Oklahoma City to just one run with 11 strikeouts over eight innings in his Triple-A debut Friday night, pushing the Reno Aces to a 2-1 victory over the RedHawks at Aces Ballpark.

Bauer (1-0) scattered four hits and just one walk over eight frames, matching a career-high with 11 punch outs in his first-career Triple-A victory. The lone blemish to his line was an eighth-inning solo home run off the bat of RedHawks catcher Landon Powell. Bauer threw 113 pitches-73 for strikes.

The Aces offense gave Bauer just enough cushion for the win. Josh Bell doubled home Adam Eaton in the third for Reno's first run, and Mike Jacobs added a bit of insurance with a solo homer in the sixth-his first of the year.

After Bauer's exit, the RedHawks put the tying and go-ahead runs on in the ninth, but Eaton gunned down the tying run at the plate, and Jonathan Albaladejo induced a game-ending groundout to preserve the victory and his seventh save.

The hard-luck loss fell to Oklahoma City starter Aneury Rodriguez (1-4), who allowed just two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings of work. Two RedHawk relievers held the Aces silent the rest of the way.

The series continues on Saturday night from Aces Ballpark. RHP Joe Martinez (0-3, 5.82 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the RedHawks will counter with LHP Dallas Keuchel (4-2, 2.09 ERA). Saturday's game will feature a Desktop Bag Toss Giveaway, presented by KOLO 8 News Now.
