Former ValleyCat stars in first MLB season
November 16, 2007
TROY, NY - Houston Astros outfielder and former Tri-City ValleyCat Hunter Pence has finished third in the race for National League Rookie of the Year. Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Ryan Braun took home the award with Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki finishing a close second.

Pence started off the 2007 season with Triple-A Round Rock but quickly got his big league call in late-April. He got off to a torrid start in the majors hovering around a .330 batting average before he was sidelined with an injured wrist. Pence came back and finished the season with an impressive .322 average with 17 homeruns and 69 RBI.

Pence made his professional debut with the ValleyCats in 2004, helping guide the team to a 50-25 record and a Stedler Division Championship. That season Pence had a .296 batting average with 8 homeruns and 37 RBI. He was named ValleyCats defensive player of the month in August of '04 and also was second in the New York-Penn League with a .518 slugging percentage.
