Red, White & Blew away Lancaster 8-5

Lake Elsinore - On a sunny special Memorial Day game between the Storm and the Lancaster JetHawks fans saw fireworks off the bat of newly acquired Justin Miller and first baseman Connor Powers as the Storm picked up another win 8-5.

Both starters, Jerry Sullivan for the Storm and Tony Perez of Lancaster threw scoreless first three innings as the Storm hold their home record against Lancaster at 6-0.

In the fourth the JetHawks picked up their first run by way of back-to-back doubles by Adam Bailey and Domingo Santana. The Storm answered back in the bottom of the inning as Miller hit his first home run at The Diamond over the Papa Johns sign in left field to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fifth the JetHawks went on a tear starting with a single by Ben Orloff. Orloff would score as George Springer hit a triple down the right field line that rolled all the way to the wall. Springer would score on a dropped fly ball behind second base.

With Adam Bailey on Santana would pick up his ninth home run of the season to give the JetHawks a 5-1 lead.

The Storm would cut that lead in the bottom of the sixth. With one out Cory Spangenberg would single to right to start the rally. After the pitch hit Tommy Medica, Connor Powers hit his home run to left field for a three-run home run to put the Storm down by one.

In the eighth the Storm surged again. Miller led off with a single to right and Spangenberg followed that with patience and walked to put two on and no out for the Storm. Tommy Medica would hit the ball of the top of the 37-foot wall to tie the game at 5-5.

The Storm took the lead when Rymer Liriano hit a two-run single to left field and Connor Powers followed that up with a line drive double to left to give the Storm an 8-5 lead.

Sullivan four innings gave up only one run and struck out five in his first start of the season and Matt Branham picked up the save striking out two advancing the Storm to a 26-25 winning record. Reliever Chris Franklin picked up the win going two innings, striking out two and allowing no runs as the Storm advance to an over .500 record for the first time since May 8 when they were 16-15.

The Storm close out the home series tomorrow in the final games against Lancaster at a normal 7:05 p.m. start on a Fat Tuesday.
