Dolis, Lalli Optioned to Iowa; Beliveau Activated
In other moves for Iowa, lefty reliever Jeff Beliveau was activated from the disabled list today while right-handed starter Rodrigo Lopez was placed on the D.L. with a strained groin, effective May 26. IF Nate Samson has been re-assigned to double-A Tennessee.
Dolis began the season with Chicago and was 2-4 with a 5.68 ERA and four saves in 23 games. In 25.1 innings, he allowed 21 hits, walked 17, and struck out 11. His first game with Iowa will be his Triple-A debut. He made the jump from double-A Tennessee to Chicago after the Southern League playoffs last September. Baseball America rates Dolis as the seventh-best prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization for 2012.
Lalli began the season with Iowa and batted .173 (13-for-73) with two doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI in 20 games. The Cubs purchased his contract on May 18 and he made his big league debut that day against the Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field. He got his first major league hit on May 21 at Houston. In six games with Chicago, Lalli was 2-for-15 with a run scored and two RBI.
Beliveau went on the disabled list on May 22 with a left shoulder strain. In 16 games with Iowa, he is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and has 23 strikeouts in 21 innings.
Lopez suffered his injury on the first pitch of his last start at Memphis on May 25. In seven games (five starts) with Iowa, Lopez is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA. In 20 innings, he has allowed 12 hits, walked seven, and struck out 17. He joined the I-Cubs on April 27 after getting designated for assignment, clearing waivers, and accepting a minor league assignment. In four games with Chicago to begin the season, Lopez was 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA.
Samson returns to Tennessee where he started the season. He joined Iowa on May 17 and batted .174 (4-for-23) with four runs scored on nine games.
