Jimmy Nelson selected to 2012 FSL All-Star Game

VIERA, Fla. - The Florida State League announced on Friday that right-handed starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson has been selected from the Brevard County Manatees to represent the North Division in the 2012 Florida State League All-Star Game in Port Charlotte on June 16.

Nelson is currently second in the league in both earned run average (2.08) and strikeouts (67). He leads the Florida State League with 69.1 innings pitched and is fourth with a 1.05 WHIP.

The Niceville, Fla. native has a record of 4-4 in 11 starts. He has pitched his best at Space Coast Stadium so far this season, with a 2-1 record and a 1.21 ERA at home. Of the eleven starts that Nelson has made so far, he has struck out at least six batters in seven of them and has had seven quality starts.

He also currently ranks fifth in the FSL with a .222 batting average against and second with a 2.19 ground ball/fly ball ratio.

Nelson was selected by the Brewers in the second round (64th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama.
