Top Prospect Chris Reed Joins Lookouts
Today, the Los Angeles Dodgers have announced several roster moves that affect the Chattanooga Lookouts. LHP Chris Reed, who was the Dodgers' first round selection (16th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has been promoted to Chattanooga. Additionally, RHP Chris Withrow has been placed on the disabled list, and C Angelo Ponte has been activated off of the Lookouts' disabled list.
Reed, who is scheduled to make his debut on the mound for the Lookouts during tonight's 7:15 PM contest against the Jackson Generals, has appeared in seven games (six starts) for Rancho Cucamonga (High-A) this season. He has gone a combined 1-4 with a 3.09 ERA. In 35 innings of work, he has yielded 25 hits and 14 walks, while striking out 38. Drafted out of Stanford University, Reed earned All-Pac 10 honorable mention honors in 2011, after posting a 0.96 ERA and nine saves in 12 relief appearances. After being drafted, he made three starts for Rancho Cucamonga, going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA. Reed entered the 2012 season as the fifth best prospect in the Dodgers organization per Baseball America. He was also listed superlatively for having the best slider amongst prospects in the organization. The 2008 U.S. Army National Scholar Athlete Award recipient graduated with a 4.2 GPA from Cleveland High School in California.
Withrow has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a strained lower back. He has gone 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA in eight games (seven starts) this season for the Lookouts. The lone Lookout on the Dodgers' 40-man roster, Withrow entered the season ranked as the Dodgers' seventh best prospect by Baseball America.
Ponte has only appeared in one game this season for Chattanooga. On May 21st against the Huntsville Stars, he collected one hit and a walk in six plate appearances. The former Fordham Ram played in four total games last season between Chattanooga, Ogden, and the AZL Dodgers.
