Purdue Coach, Schreiber, to throw out first pitch
Schreiber, a native of nearby La Porte, Indiana, led the Boilmakers to their first Big 10 championship since 1909 and to their first NCAA Regional since 1987. Purdue finished with a 45-14 record, shattering the school's previous record for wins in a season.
Schreiber will be throwing out the pitch Friday on behalf of the Purdue Club of Elkhart County. The Purdue Alumni Club of Elkhart County raises funds for scholarships to support Elkhart County students attending Purdue. In addition, the Club sponsors various activities to promote the University.
Schreiber, who also played his college ball at Purdue (1983-86), is the son of LaPorte High School baseball coach Ken Schreiber, a three-time National Prep Coach of the Year.
Schreiber plans to bring the 2012 Big Ten baseball championship trophy to Coveleski Stadium. Fans will have the chance to take photos with the trophy.
Friday is also a Flatscreen Friday presented by HH Gregg with a postgame fireworks show presented by 1st Source Bank and Sunny 101.5. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 235-9988 or online at www.silverhawks.com. The South Bend Silver Hawks are the Class-A, Midwest League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
