Esposito, Chalas Lead 6-4 Win in Game One
The Shorebirds scored two runs in the first inning. Glynn Davis hit a single towards the right side of the infield to open the inning. After stealing his 16th base of the year, Davis scored on a double down the left field line by Esposito. Then, Kannapolis starter Jefferson Olacio proceeded to walk the next three batters to force in the second run.
The Shorebirds extended the lead to 4-0 in the second. Mychal Givens hit a lead off double to right-center field. Two batters later, Mikey Planeta singled up the middle to score Givens. After stealing second, Planeta scored on a single by Esposito.
In the third inning, Gabriel Lino hit a solo home run to left field to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Kannapolis scored for the first time in the fifth inning. With two outs, Ross Wilson singled home David Herbeck, who reached on a walk. After Nicky Delmonico committed an error to extend the inning, Kevan Smith singled home Wilson.
Miguel Chalas earned his staff high sixth win of the season over six strong innings. He allowed just five hits.
Jesse Beal entered in the seventh and retired seven batters in a row before running into trouble. In the ninth, Beal issued back-to-back walks with one out. Pinch hitter Grant Buckner followed with a double to deep left field to trim the deficit to 6-4. On the next pitch, Beal popped up Wilson to second to end the game.
Sammie Starr also had three hits for Delmarva including a double in the eighth inning that led to the sixth run of the night.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play game two of the series on Friday night at 7:05pm. RHP Justin Moore is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
