Dirk Nowitzki 2012 Heroes Celebrity Game on June 30

FRISCO, TEXAS (JUNE 11, 2012) - After having mastered the hardwood, former NBA Most Valuable Player Dirk Nowitzki will try his luck on the diamond this summer as he and several other athletes and celebrities will participate in the "Dirk Nowitzki 2012 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game" on June 30 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. A Celebrity Home Run Derby will precede the game with a fireworks show to follow the charity contest, both presented by Baylor Medical Center at Frisco.

In addition to Nowitzki, others that are slated to appear in the Celebrity Baseball Game include Dallas Mavericks players Jason Terry, Delonte West, and Brian Cardinal, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, Mavericks president Donnie Nelson, former Dallas Cowboy and three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl "Moose" Johnston, former Cowboys safety and OU legend Roy Williams, former Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens, FC Dallas players Ugo Ihemelu and Brek Shea, former Texas Ranger Kevin Mench and former Major League outfielder and Arlington native Ben Grieve. Proceeds from the event will benefit the children's charities of the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation.

Saturday, June 30

  • 3:00 - Gates open at Dr Pepper Ballpark 3:30 - Whataburger Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball Game
  • 5:00 - Baylor Medical Center at Frisco Celebrity Home Run Derby with HITS400
  • 6:00 - Dirk Nowitzki's 2012 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game
  • Fireworks Finale sponsored by Baylor Medical Center at Frisco will follow the game

This will be the 11th edition of the Heroes Game at Dr Pepper Ballpark. New for this year is the Celebrity Home Run Derby, during which the public will have a chance to swing with the stars. To qualify, interested participants must try out by June 22 at HITS400, a new luxury indoor batting cage located in Plano at 4000 Hedgcoxe Rd. Four skilled long ball hitters will be selected to suit up and compete against the celebrity players at Dirk Nowitzki's Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game June 30.
