Freehold's Justin Singer is Fan 5-Million

June 15, 2012
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Justin Singer, 7, of Freehold was the BlueClaws 5-millionth fan, coming through the gates as the 1,555th fan on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws, in the process, became the fastest team in New Jersey and South Atlantic League history to reach the 5-million fan plateau.

"It was getting a little warm," Ken Singer, Justin's father, said. "As we got closer they started telling us it was for the five millionth fan. Sure enough, as we were getting closer we saw more horns going, we see them getting ready to release the balloons, and I said, 'This kid (Justin) might have a chance to do it.'"

Justin wins an autographed team bat, a BlueClaws "5-million" jersey, and season tickets for the 2013 season.

"I really enjoyed coming here today, just being able to come into a ball park, park your car, no hassle," said Ken Singer. "I was just saying to my wife, 'We've got to do this a lot more often. And sure enough, it looks like we will.'"

On August 24, 2009, then-seven year old Matthew Currie of Toms River became the team's 4-millionth fan. Curry joined Lou Ameika of Lakewood (3-millionth fan, July 16, 2007), Al Spinney of Manahawkin (2-millionth fan, June 22, 2005) and Sean Morales of Jackson (1-millionth fan, April 26, 2003) on the list of milestone BlueClaws fans.

Since the team's inception in 2001, 26 game-day staffers have worked all 12 seasons for the organization. Meanwhile five front office staff members have spent all 12 seasons with the BlueClaws: General Manager Geoff Brown; Brandon Marano, Assistant General Manager of Operations; Hal Hansen, Director of Promotions; Jim DeAngelis, Director of Community Relations; Mike Ryan, Director of Marketing.
