Lakeland names Zach Burek new GM

November 9, 2005
The Lakeland Tigers have named Zach Burek the new General Manager of the Florida State League club. Burek previously worked as the teams' Assistant GM from 1997-2001 and has spent the past 4+ years working for Polk County Tourism and Sports in Bartow, FL. Burek served as the Corporate Sponsorship and Community Development Manager for that outfit.

"We're very pleased to welcome Zach back to the Tiger family," said Ron Myers, the Director of Florida Operations for the Detroit Tigers. "Zach has been keeping an eye on our operation and has strengthened his roots in the city and county over the past few years and we're looking forward to having his expertise back on our team." In discussing his return to the team, Burek remarked, "I'm very excited to rejoin the Tigers; it's a team with great tradition and a remarkable history. I'm looking forward to making the Lakeland Tigers a stronger part of Polk County and the Lakeland community."

While with Polk County Sports Marketing, Burek implemented partnership programs with the Detroit/Lakeland Tigers, Cleveland Indians, and the Orlando Magic. Burek also co-hosted "Sports Central," a weekly sports radio talk show in Central Florida and a bi-weekly sports television program of the same name.

Burek holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester) and was a recipient of the SNHU Gold Key Award during his time at the university.

Burek resides in Lakeland, FL.
