Wort Added to All-Star Game Roster

(WOODBRIDGE, VA) - Rob Wort of the Potomac Nationals has been added to the roster for the California-Carolina League All-Star game tomorrow evening. Wort becomes the second P-Nat to make the All-Star team as catcher David Freitas will start the game behind the plate.

Wort, 23, finished the first half with a 1-2 record and a 1.10 ERA. He leads all Carolina League relievers in strikeouts per nine innings (15.43) and is third in fewest baserunners per nine innings (9.92). His 56 strikeouts are also the most on the entire Potomac Nationals pitching staff. This is Wort's first All-Star appearance in four seasons of professional baseball.

Freitas, 23, hit .285 in the first half with three home runs and 23 runs batted in. His .285 batting average leads qualified Carolina League catchers while his .396 on-base percentage is also good for best in the Carolina League. In addition to leading Potomac in batting average and on-base percentage, Freitas is second in slugging percentage (.400), third in walks (27), and second in OPS (.796).

This is the third straight year Freitas has been named a starter in an All-Star game in his three year professional career. In 2010, Freitas started the National League team in the New York-Penn League All-Star game in Staten Island, New York. Last year, he was selected to start for the North team in the South Atlantic All-Star game in Salisbury, Maryland.

The 2012 Calfornia-Carolina League All-Star game takes place tomorrow evening at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at 7:15 PM. For tickets and more information, visit www.wsdash.com.
