December 20, 2007
The Clinton LumberKings will be holding their annual Hot Stove Banquet on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Eagle Point Park Lodge. This year's keynote speaker will be Mike Veeck, baseball owner and entrepreneur.

Veeck is a name synonymous with fun at the ballpark. Mike is the son of Bill Veeck, former owner of the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and the then-minor league Milwaukee Brewers. Bill Veeck is remembered for signing Larry Doby, the first African-American to play in the American League and for sending 3-foot, 6-inch Eddie Gaedel to the plate for the Browns in a 1951 game against Detroit.

Mike currently owns and operates six professional minor league baseball clubs. He began his baseball career with the Chicago White Sox and he has also worked for the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He also owns and operates a very successful promotional and advertising company and is a very highly sought-after speaker who has entertained groups such as 3M, General Mills, NASCAR and the NBA. Mike has made appearances on 60 Minutes, HBO Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, NBC Nightly News and ESPN's SportsCenter.

Veeck is the author of the book "Fun is Good," which describes how his simple philosophy leads to success in any business.
