Larry Greene gets first hit, but bats quiet in Cutters' loss
Williamsport only put 5 runners in scoring position, while the top of the order shined for State College.
The Spikes took the lead in the first inning, before the Cutters took the lead in the third. Roman Quinn took third on an infield chop by Diego Gonzalez, then came home when Spikes' First Baseman Jared Lakind's throw went wide. Greene would later plate Seritella to give Williamsport a 2-1 lead.
Cutter starter Ulises Joaquin had retired 11 straight batters when he was replaced by Jim Birmingham in the sixth inning. Birmingham loaded the bases and blew the lead when Ryan Hornback chopped an infield single to Mitch Walding, whose throw was too low for First Baseman Serritella. The Spikes scored two runs on the play and took a 3-2 lead.
State College extended their lead to 5-2 in the seventh inning on an RBI triple by Jodaneli Carvajal down the right field line and a groundball single up the middle from Raul Fortunato.
Carvajal and Fortunato combined to go 5-for-7 with a triple, four runs and two RBI.
Quinn started a two-out rally in the ninth, but he and Gonzalez were left stranded when Brian Pointer grounded out to end the ballgame.
Birmingham took the loss, surrendering 2 runs in 0.1 innings. Serritella reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Greene was 1-for-4 on the night. Quinn finished 2-for-5.
