Liriano Selected to MLB Futures Game
The 2010 Emeralds outfielder batted .271 in 53 games in the Northwest League before being called up to Fort Wayne and later Lake Elsinore. This season he is batting .302 in 68 games with Lake Elsinore.
The Dominican Republic native was signed by the Padres as a non-drafted free agent in 2007 and played for the Dominican Summer League Padres the following year. Prior to the 2012 season, Liriano was ranked the no. 3 prospect in the Padres organization by MLB.com.
Playing in the Futures game is a great honor for players, who get a chance to play on the big stage of the MLB All-Star Game. There have been eighty-eight players in total who have competed in both the Futures Game and the MLB All-Star Game, thirty in 2011. Liriano will join Padres prospect, C Yasmani Grandal (Tucson-AAA), on the World roster for the game.
