McElroy marvels fans, Storm win 6-2
Starting pitcher Burch wowed the crowd again at The Diamond pitching a perfect game past the fifth inning. Tonight he pitched five inning giving up the one hit in the top of the sixth to pick up his six win in a Storm uniform.
Smith has won four of his last five starts and now holds a 3.68 ERA. He last almost perfect outing was back on April 28 when he pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up his one hit and struck out a season high 13 batters against the second best hitting team in the league.
The Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Tommy Medica hit a two out RBI double to right field for his 12th double of the season. Media continues his hit streak to eight games.
Powers duplicated Medica in the second hitting his 15th double of the season after McElroy singled giving the Storm an early 2-0 lead. Powers was 2-for-4 on the night with a double a home run and scored four RBI in the process.
The Storm had a three-run fourth when Rymer Liriano started off with his 21st double of the season. McElroy singled to right field to put two on and two out for Powers who hit a three-run bomb over the left field wall for back-to-back nights with a homerun.
In the fifth the Storm picked up their sixth run of the game by way of stolen bases. Rico Noel led off with a walk and pulled the Billy Hamilton stealing second and wasting no time to steal third and then scoring on a sacrifice fly by Justin Miller. That would be enough they needed.
Noel picked up three bases tonight to now have a total of 50 stolen bases on the season.
The JetHawks scored two runs in the top of the seventh, one by Domingo Santana who scored off a Telvin Nash single and the other by Jonathan Meyer who scored on a groundout by Chris Epps but that would be it.
Tomorrow is not only a Social Media Saturday at The Diamond but the first 2,000 fans will receive a 2012 World Series MVP David Freese replica Storm Jersey. Freese played with the Storm back in 2007. Sunday is not only the final Reading for Rewards day for all those kids who read their 10 books but come out and celebrate Thunder's Birthday.
