Piccirilli and Topper were among a list of nominees presented to the Potomac Nationals by the Potomac News, which annually covers all major high school athletics in Prince William County. Members of the P-Nats' front office then reviewed each of the players' stats and highlights from the 2007 season and selected the winners based on all-around performance.
