Baby Bomber bats come to life

Team earns first home victory of the season
June 24, 2012
In front of a loud and cheerful crowd at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George the Staten Island Yankees bats came to life. The team won their first home game of the young season, defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades 9-1.

The big at-bat in the game came in the first inning when the Staten Island Yankees catcher, Wes Wilson, hit a bases loaded triple to give the Baby Bombers a 5-0 lead. Saxon Butler was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Exicardo Cayones reached base three times and scored each time.

Starter Gabriel Encinas went 3 and 1/3 innings striking out two.

Ravel Santana finally got into the hit column with a single in the second. In the fourth he was lifted for Taylor Dugas after being hit in the back with a pitch. The Staten Island Yankees scored seven runs in the first two innings, after only getting three hits in the previous nine innings.

The Baby Bombers improve to 2-5 on the season and take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds in a three game series in Staten Island starting Monday.
