Warthogs build up staff
Meet the new Warthogs staff:
Amy Newman, Director of Merchandise - grew up in Belews Creek, N.C. and found out about the merchandising job with the Warthogs after seeing Wally the Warthog at a Family Fun Day at the YMCA. She is a graduate of Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. where she majored in sports management and minored in biology. She started in November and is looking forward to her first season in professional baseball.
Jerry Shadley, Director of Group Sales - is a Lincoln, Neb. native, but has been in Winston-Salem since 1998 working with Blue Rhino where he was the vice president of sales for six years. Shadley was a gymnast in college, but starting with the Warthogs in October is Shadley's first job in the sports industry.
Cass Ferguson, Director of Stadium Operations - was an intern with the Warthogs last year, but his ties to Winston-Salem go back farther than that. He grew up in Winston-Salem and attended West Forsyth High School. He was also a batboy for the Warthogs when he was 15 before graduating from UNC-Charlotte. Ferguson is also a big basketball fan, especially of UNC-Charlotte. He still travels to Charlotte to assist with the NCAA basketball tournament every year.
Trey Kalny, Director of Community Relations - is a native of Richardson, Texas and graduated from Wake Forest with an English and history double major. He uses his love for English to head up the Warthogs reading program, among other community service efforts. He is an avid sports fan and interviewed with the Warthogs after attending his first game at Ernie Shore Field while a student at Wake Forest. In his spare time, Kalny enjoys acting and playing with his dog, Bateman.
The Warthogs open their season on April 4 when they travel to Kinston for a three-game series against the Indians. The final Opening Day at Ernie Shore Field is Tuesday, April 8 at 7 pm when the Warthogs welcome the Lynchburg Hillcats to Winston-Salem for a three-game series. For information on purchasing group tickets or ticket packages, please call the Warthogs office at 336-759-2233 or visit www.warthogs.com.
