Marauders Fall Flat Against Cards
Bradenton, Fla.- The Bradenton Marauders (4-3) dropped their series opener against Palm Beach (3-5) 10-4 on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. A six-run sixth inning outburst thrust the Cardinals to a 10-1 advantage that the Marauders could not fully erase.
Matt Benedict's (L, 0-2) second start with the Marauders got off to a rocky start. Palm Beach scored two runs in the first on a Chris Edmonson home run. The Cardinals added a single run in the second and third to hold a 4-1 advantage.
Chris Corrigan (W, 2-2) was sharp for the Cardinals, holding the Marauders to one first inning run through the first six innings. Mel Rojas Jr. drove in a run in the first, but Corrigan didn't allow another run until the seventh when two walks and an Elevys Gonzalez double chased Corrigan from the game. The Marauders cut the score to 10-4 through seven but did not threaten against the bullpen in the eighth or ninth.
Kirk Singer, who was honored before the game for earning FSL player of the week recognition, doubled and drove in a run. Dan Grovatt hit safely in a fourth straight game and scored a run.
The series continues Friday night at McKechnie Field. First pitch is at 6:30pm.
